This position has the responsibility and accountability to provide indirect care related services consistent with written assignments or as delegated by the Charge Nurse and/or Nursing Administration.
All services are provided in a manner that enables the resident to maintain dignity, respect and individuality.
The Nursing Facility Attendant maintains a 'homelike environment' for the residents, protects and promotes resident rights.
Reporting Relationships:
This position reports to clinical care coordinator and/or charge nurse.

Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of facility.
Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or oral instructions in case of an emergency.
Sufficient mobility, and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times and to assist, transfer or otherwise move residents of facility out of danger in case of an emergency.
Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with facility policies on attendance and punctuality and dress code.
Able to arrive and begin work on time and to report for duty as scheduled on all shifts, weekends and holidays.
Working knowledge and ability to comply with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedures, application of universal precautions for blood borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials.
Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks/responsibilities and complete duties/projects as assigned.
Able to interact effectively with individuals who are cognitively and/or physically impaired.
Able to carry out essential functions of this job (with or without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others.
Physical, Psychological Demands:
Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress of the position.
Examples of these stresses include, but not limited to; shift rotation, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in the nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsman and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff.
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies.
Must be able to work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
May be required to lift medical supplies and or equipment 50-300 lbs.

Essential functions are carried out in a variety of positions including standing and sitting.
To assist the nursing staff must be able to move freely through the building.
Stooping, bending, lifting and carrying, as well as other physical demands may be required as described.
Job Duties:
Nursing Facility Attendant will provide indirect care for residents and help to keep their environment in-room and common areas conducive to quality of life.

Shift Change Huddle - a time at the beginning and end of each shift in which the team communicate pertinent resident related information.
Compliance Rounds - consists of visiting each residents room q 2hrs ensuring needs are addressed and environment is in compliance with Arbor Springs expectations to include State & Federal Regulations.
Empty, clean and disinfect bedside commodes and urinals.
Clean and organize bedside table ensuring ADL care products are in clean Ziploc bags Clean and make unoccupied beds Answer call lights, assisting resident as appropriate or obtaining appropriate personnel to address resident request.
Assist / Transport residents to and from activities Engage in activities with residents Hydration/ Ice Pass - Provides fresh water and ice for residents each shift utilizing proper infection control technique.
Water Pitchers will be delivered to the dietary department to be washed routinely, according to schedule, and retrieved the same shift and returned to the resident's room with fresh ice and water Snacks will be passed, assist resident with hand washing, set up Breakfast / Lunch / Supper trays will be passed, assist resident with hand washing, set up Assist / Transport assigned residents to main dining room.
