3 Quick Apply 10 hours ago Full Job Description The procedure room technician will assist with procedures and, by anticipating physician needs, ensure procedures are executed as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
They will prepare and organize the operating room, clean equipment, and maintain a clean and sterile environment.
They will transport patients from pre-op to procedure suite to recovery, monitor patients in recovery, and discharge as appropriate and as directed by physician.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
Perform job in accordance with Company Mission, vision, and goals.
Assist in bringing patients to procedure suite and recovery.
Assists patients with medical forms, as necessary.
Exercise confidentiality in all areas, abiding by HIPAA rules and regulations.
Accurately completes applicable paperwork; ensuring patient medical records are complete.
Prepares all forms and requisitions as instructed by the provider.
Creates and maintains a positive atmosphere of customer service, teamwork, mutual respect, professionalism and accountability.
Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit, and confirming patient ID.
Sets up the sterile field on the Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, medications and equipment needed for procedures.
Ensures team members, patient and procedure suite are maintaining sterile field.
Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure.
Assists physicians with surgical scrubs and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure.
Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure Maintains and improves current skills and knowledge by attending all relevant meetings, classes, trainings and by keeping certifications current.
Measures, passes and holds medications, hemostatic agents, instruments and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure.
Performs surgical support tasks as directed by the surgeon.
Coordinates the camera or changes out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon.
Adheres to Infection Control, Safety and OSHA standards as specified by State, and Company standards.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with State, Company and any other applicable policies and procedures.
If assisting with procedures, adheres to all federal, state and nursing regulations and protocols including but not limited to patient safety procedures such as verification of patient identification prior to procedures Immediately prior to the start of any procedure in the procedure room, initiate/participates in a time-out and ensures correct patient, procedure, site and side, and that there are no additional concerns.
Identifies every patient with two identifiers:
full name and date of birth Documents this information in the Procedure Safety Checklist, including the time of the time-out Performs additional counts, as necessary.
Prepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices.
Sterilizes and cleans instruments used in examinations and/or procedures; maintains clean and hygienic environment.
Operates, sterilizes, and maintains necessary equipment, including but not limited to the autoclave, RFA machine, etc.
Monitors the comfort of the patient and provides verbal and tactile reassurance to the patient.
Assists with positioning the patient, using appropriate equipment and anatomical principles to avoid patient injury.
Applies the electrosurgical grounding pad.
Positions and prepares the patient for the procedures, establishes the sterile field, and drapes the patient for the procedures.
Secures dressings after incision closure.
Obtains vital signs.
Verifies patient history and takes detailed history when indicated.
Informs physician of results.
Makes frequent rounds on patients in pre-op and recovery to provide for any other needs of the patient prior to discharge.
Performs daily, weekly and monthly safety and equipment checks.
Daily reviews upcoming cases and notifies nurse of any potential issues.
Assists with inventory in the procedure suites as directed.
Sends supply requisitions to the procedure room supervisor.
Cleans and prepares procedure suite in between patients; cleans and stocks at end of day.
Starts IV as needed after competency skills check-off Properly maintains procedure rooms, recovery and pre-op areas, and tech stations.
Draws up injections to be administered, as appropriate.
Monitors patients in recovery and communicates any changes in condition to nurse and/or physician Removes IV catheter at time of discharge, and documents appropriately in the chart.
Discharges patient when directed; transports to patient vehicle.
Monitors personal and other applicable staff task buckets in the EMR.
Operates, sterilizes, and maintains necessary equipment, including but not limited to the autoclave, RFA machine, etc.
Assists the physician with use of the C-Arm, as directed.
Accurately completes and maintains all applicable records and logs (i.
e.
:
radiation, spore testing, equipment, medical records, etc.
).
Checks work e-mail on a regular basis throughout the workday.
Participate in and complete all required trainings and in-services.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED.
Must possess and maintain a valid BLS certification.
Must have knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook).
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including exceptional customer service.
Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with doctors, clinical staff, other co-workers and the public.
Must be able to work individually as well as within a team.
Must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
Must be able to respond with patience and understanding during stressful conditions related to patient health and emergent situations.
Must be able to multi-task and prioritize.
Must have working knowledge of all equipment and procedures.

Must have a working knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialty, as well as medical terminology.

Prior assisting with the operation of the C-Arm, must complete C-arm competencies.
Driving/Travel:
The employee must have reliable transportation.
Travel for this position may be required up to 80%.
While the primary workplace may be closest to the employee's home, work assignments could be in any of the Company's locations.
